Founded in 2008 by Nobel Peace Laureate Muhammad Yunus, Grameen America is dedicated to helping women who live in poverty build small businesses to create better lives for their families. It offers microloans, savings, training and support to transform communities and fight poverty in the United States, based on the Grameen model developed in Bangladesh. In a short time, Grameen America has become a leading practitioner of microfinance for low-income people in the developed world, and as such has received outstanding and well-deserved coverage in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and The Economist. Grameen America is a sister organization of Grameen Foundation that has its own independent management and board of directors. We coordinate and collaborate with Grameen America frequently and are proud of their accomplishments and excited about their nationwide expansion.
