Mexico

Mexico, Latin America’s second most populous country, faces serious poverty and inequality issues.

  • Two percent of the population (2.1 million) lives on less than US$1.25 a day.
  • The poorest 20 percent of the population holds only 4 percent of the country’s total income.
  • Mexico ranks 51st among nations for social well-being based on the UN’s Human Development Index.

Grameen Foundation has been supporting microfinance in Mexico since 1999.  We currently provide financing to AlSol, as well as services through our social performance management program.  We also work closely with Grameen de la Frontera and Centeotl.
