Online Communications Officer

Job Summary: Grameen Foundation’s Marketing and Communications (MarCom) Department is seeking an Online Communications Officer who is a creative thinker and a self-starter with a passion for developing new ideas and driving them through to implementation. The successful candidate should be comfortable in a fast paced environment.  The Online Communications Officer will manage and constantly enhance Grameen Foundation’s website and online presence, develop and/or support communications outreach initiatives, and support online fundraising. The successful candidate will have an in-depth knowledge and strong work experience in social media and content management systems, along with a working knowledge of communications/public relations. Familiarity with the nonprofit environment is a plus.

Reporting and relationships:  The Online Communications Officer will report to the Director of Marketing and Communications (MarCom) and works closely with the Development Department, including the Director of Online & Annual Giving.

Availability:  The Online Communications Officer is expected to work a typical work week of 37.5 hours plus additional hours as necessary to get the job done.

Essential Job Functions
The Online Communications Officer is responsible for:
Website
• Perform day-to-day administration of the GF Web site using our Drupal content management system (CMS), work with MarCom and program staff to ensure that the content is relevant, timely and consistent with GF standards.
• Develop and implement organizational web strategy; identify, recommend and prioritize new Web features and content, and develop and maintain special sections of website to accommodate special events as needed.
• Regularly review site to ensure best-practice search engine optimization (SEO), track GF Website traffic via Google Analytics to identify trends in site usage, visitor statistics, to develop an “online viewer” profile and assess how to better engage our visitors; regularly develop and maintain new interfaces and features for site visitors to keep the site fresh; manage Google Adwords and other online advertising.
• Develop an active, passionate volunteer group to assist with developing new features and growing GF outreach

Social Media
• Develop an engagement strategy to advance the GF brand in conjunction with the directors of MarCom and Online/Annual Giving; as needed, create and disseminate daily content for both GF’s Facebook fan page and Twitter feed to continually engage supporters with GF news and messaging; track social media discussions of GF via Google newsfeed and develop relationships with bloggers and others in the social media space who are engaged with GF issues and ideas.
• Maintain GF’s Creating a World Without Poverty blog, including managing volunteers, recruiting new bloggers and creating interesting content and generating buzz to enhance GF’s blogging presence.

Enewsletter
• Work closely with staff writer to create e-newsletter editorial calendar and generate a monthly e-newsletter using Convio; track newsletter statistics to identify trends in site usage, visitor statistics, to develop an “online viewer” profile and assess how to better engage our readers.

Ecards
• Manage GF’s e-card series; write and produce electronic greeting cards and/or manage volunteers and/or contractors to expand card lines.

Marketing/Communications
• Serve as liaison between MarCom and other departments of GF to maintain open lines of communications and identify ways to enhance their communications.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Commitment to Grameen Foundation’s mission.
• Proven track record in Website management and analytics, online outreach/communications, and search engine marketing.
• Solid understanding of HTML/CSS techniques (Drupal expertise a plus).
• Experience in electronic communications and project management.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• A proven team player.
• Excellent organizational and human relations skills in a cross-cultural environment.
• Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines, and work gracefully under pressure.

Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree, with a minimum of three to five years of relevant on the job experience or advance technical training with more years of experience.  Years of experience may be substituted for some of the formal education.
• Experience in working with Flash, Photoshop and InDesign is a plus

Physical and Environmental Conditions
This position does not require unusual demands for physical effort.  This position may occasionally require physical effort to lift and transport boxes weighing no more than 50 pounds.

Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of places such as offices, meeting or training rooms, residences, or commercial vehicles; e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, and/or avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations and traffic signals.
