Portfolio Manager, India

Grameen Foundation USA (GF), a global leader in the microfinance movement to empower the world's poorest people to lift themselves out of poverty with dignity, seeks a Portfolio Manager for its work in India. GF combines microfinance, new technologies and innovative thinking to empower the world's poorest people to escape poverty. Since its incorporation in 1997, it has established a global network of microfinance partners in 24 countries and has impacted an estimated 34 million lives in Asia, Africa, the Americas and the Middle East.

Position Description:
This will be consultant position based in Hyderabad, India and will require frequent travel within India. The position is for a period of up to one year. The Consultant will work closely with the Regional Coordinator of South Asia Programs based in the United States and the India Country Representative based in Hyderabad, India. He/she will coordinate with other program staff and departments within GF. The Portfolio Manager, India will be responsible for developing and overseeing the implementation of GF’s work in India in line with its vision, mission and strategic plan.

Contractor Obligations:

The Consultant will be required to perform the following services on behalf of GF:
• Monitoring, and tracking the quarterly financial and operational reports and overall performance against targets of GF’s MFI partners and ensuring their compliance with GF and/or donor reporting requirements
• Identifying MFI candidates, both partners and non-partners, who can benefit from use of GF products and services especially in areas of technology, social performance management, and capital markets.
• Performing detailed due diligence on potential GF partner candidates.
• Implementing and monitoring ongoing projects, ensuring timely completion within specified budget.
• Where relevant, providing formal training in organizational capacity building and technical microfinance subjects to GF partners and in other venues such as conferences or training centers.
• Representing GF at microfinance related events such as seminars, conferences, trainings and working exchanges.
• Staying informed on industry developments and regulatory issues in India.
• Participating in fundraising activities for GF’s India programs.
• Acting as the communication link between the MFIs in India and Grameen Foundation office in Washington DC, USA by providing regular reporting on developments in microfinance in India and responding to requests for information.

GF is seeking an experienced Consultant with the following expertise:
• Knowledge of microfinance industry, best practices and familiarity with different microfinance operational methodologies;
• Microfinance institutional assessment experience, credit analysis experience and experience providing trainings strongly preferred;
• Strong financial statement analysis skills;
• Self-starter with strong self-motivation and the ability to work without daily supervision or interaction with other staff members;
• Proven competence in building collaborative relationships with a variety of stakeholders;
• Demonstrated maturity with excellent interpersonal and inter-cultural communication skills;
• Outstanding coordination and time management skills, with ability to handle multiple activities concurrently, under pressure, and to tight deadlines;
• Fluency in spoken and written English, Hindi language skills a plus;
• Computer proficiency, especially in Outlook, Power Point, Word and Excel;
• Ability to act as a representative of GF to the public;
• Commitment to eradication of poverty in India.

Education and Experience:
• Master’s degree in economics, business administration, or social sciences;
• Two or more years of work experience in India; preference for banking and/or microfinance experience.
