Development Assistant

The Development Assistant is a highly-motivated individual who will help the Development Department attract, communicate with, shepherd and upgrade Grameen Foundation’s vital constituents: its donors. He/she will form part of a dynamic group within Grameen Foundation by lending assistance with projects ranging from grant/report writing; producing print and online publications; to providing general administrative support.

Reporting and relationships: The Development Assistant will report to the VP, Development.

Availability: The Development Assistant will be expected to work full time, 37.5 hours plus additional hours as necessary to get the job done, including occasional attendance at special events.

Essential Job Functions:
• Assists with drafting grant applications under the guidance of the Director of Business Development, to obtain funding. Maintains relations with donors by writing reports to them. Duties may also include assembling grant proposal packages; producing charts and graphics for the documents; maintaining department-wide calendars for report and grant due dates
• Contributes to expanding Grameen Foundation’s pool of donors through research on prospective donors
• Provides general administrative support to the VP and the Development Department including responding to the public’s inquiries about the organization or donating; and maintaining the department’s calendar of staff travel/vacation
• On an as needed and limited basis, helps the Annual Giving group within the Development Department reach new donors through such activities as:
o updating the database with new contact information
o responding to general information requests
o forms part of the team, as necessary, that promptly processes gifts from donors by entering gifts into the database, mailing out tax receipt letters to contributors and completing other such steps in handling donations.
o participates in activities to retain donors such as writing thank you notes and compiling “welcome packets” for new donors
o helps liaise with volunteers who wish to organize events on behalf of Grameen Foundation by providing them our toolkit and answering their questions
o assisting with communications including: copy editing, writing, updating Web pages, basic photo editing, creating invitations, etc.
• Participates in department strategy meetings, sharing new and exciting ways to build the donor base, increase giving and create donor loyalty.
• Performs other duties as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and high comfort with computers
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• High attention to detail
• Ability to perform multiple tasks in deadline-driven work environment
• Passion for helping poor people escape poverty
• Experience with simple updating of Web pages, fundraising software, Photoshop, and basic knowledge of HTML a plus

Spanish language proficiency and experience living abroad strongly desired.

Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree in related field or the equivalent in work experience; and 1-2 years related work experience.
