Major Gifts Officer / East Coast

The Major Gifts Officer / East Coast will be a dynamic, experienced individual who will make contributions to GF’s individual giving through bringing in major gifts of $50,000+.
The responsibilities of the Major Gifts Officer / East Coast will be to research, identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift donors. Additional duties associated with this position will be to conceptualize and manage special events and write customized proposals and reports. S/he will manage a portfolio of major gift prospects and maintain all donor records in GF’s donor database.

The minimum requirements for this position include: College degree and 5-7 years work experience in securing major gifts for non-profits. GF is specifically seeking individuals who have asked and closed on gifts of $1 million and above, and who are capable of making this type of request individually but also function well in a team. S/he must be able to work in a fast-paced internationally-oriented environment. Experience living abroad is a plus. Excellent communication skills and initiative are required.

Reporting and relationships: The Major Gifts Officer / East Coast will report to the Executive Director Development West Coast.

Availability:
The Major Gifts Officer / East Coast will be expected to work a typical work week of 37.5 hours plus additional hours as necessary to get the job done. The position will require travel within the US and abroad.

Essential Job Functions:
• Manage a portfolio of major gift donors, including ongoing cultivation of new prospects at the $50,000+ level, stewardship and reporting;
• Support and provide value to the development team, including the VP of Development and the President;
• Actively identify new prospects;
• Track and rank new and existing prospects;
• Work effectively and collaboratively with program staff on proposal content and budgets;
• Be an ongoing and proactive advocate for GF within the community at-large by attending appropriate functions and events;
• Maintain donor records and files;
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Extensive experience in bringing in major gifts, including 5-7 years of experience and having successfully asked for gifts of $1 million or more
• Knowledge of navigating social and philanthropic networks on the East Coast (NY, DC, Conn specifically) is preferable.
• Proactively seek to add new prospects to the pipeline, working through our GF board, staff, and their connections.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities;
• Strong communication skills;
• Outgoing and charismatic personality;
• Ability to gain working knowledge of GF's policies, procedures, and practices;
• Ability to act as a representative of GF to the public;
• Experienced knowledge of professional fundraising standards and practices;
• Time management skills;
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to work as part of a development team.

Education and Experience:
• College degree required; Graduate work a plus
• 5 -7 years development experience is preferred;
• Donor database experience.

Physical and Environmental Conditions:
This position does not require unusual demands for physical effort. This position may occasionally require physical effort to lift and transport boxes weighing no more than 50 pounds.
