Mifos QA Engineer

A global, industry-wide initiative, Mifos is a world-class management information software system designed for MFIs. Mifos will capitalize on the open source model to provide MFIs unprecedented flexibility and opportunity to scale their operations in order to serve more of the world’s poorest individuals. The Mifos Initiative is looking for a QA Engineer to join this important project. This will expand your testing skills and also make a difference in the world. We need someone who is flexible, fun to work with, and eager to help build a high quality product with the latest tools and development techniques.

Essential Job Functions:
• Create detailed test plans and test cases
• Create automated test suites using open source tools
• Build and maintain test lab environments – hardware and software
• Execute test cases during development and release cycles
• Collaborate with development team using Agile process
• Find interesting bugs and recommend product improvements
• Provide innovative ideas to the testing strategy and plans

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• 3 or more years testing web-based products, preferably Java applications.
• 2 or more years experience with web test automation tools, preferably open-source tools like Selenium
• Programming experience with scripting languages like Perl or Ruby desired
• Experience with SQL databases, preferably MySQL
• Experience with Junit or similar test frameworks
• Experience with open source projects preferred
• A serious passion for the mission of the Grameen Foundation and the Mifos Initiative
• Ability to work independently or in small teams
• Fluency in English required
• Committed to working in a non-profit model

Education and Experience:
• A minimum of five years progressive and relevant experience.
• Bachelor’s degree required. An advanced degree may be substituted for work experience.


Physical and Environmental Conditions:
This position does not require unusual demands for physical effort. This position may occasionally require physical effort to life and transport boxes weighing no more than 50 pounds.

Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of places such as offices, meeting or training rooms, residences, or commercial vehicles; e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, and/or avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations and traffic signals.
