Marketing and Communication Officer

Reports to: Manager of Finance and Administration
Based: Dubai office
Position is for Grameen-Jameel Pan-Arab Microfinance Limited

Company Background and Mission:
Grameen-Jameel Pan-Arab Microfinance Limited is a social business jointly owned by Grameen Foundation and Abdul Latif Jameel Group. The company’s core objective is poverty alleviation in the Arab world through microfinance. Grameen-Jameel’s vision is to reach one million new active microfinance clients in the Arab world by 2011. In order to achieve this, the company forms strategic partnerships with microfinance institutions (MFIs) throughout the region who share its values: commitment to reaching women and the poorest; aggressive growth plans; and financial sustainability. Grameen-Jameel supports its Partners by delivering a suite of customized products and services, and provides financing through its $50 million Grameen-Jameel Guarantee Fund. Currently, Grameen-Jameel has 12 Partners in Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Yemen, and Saudi Arabia. The company is incorporated in Cyprus with an International Humanitarian City branch license in Dubai.

ALJ has a very active community services program with emphasis on education, training and development.

Job Description:
The Marketing and Communication Officer creates and implements a marketing/communications strategy that effectively describes and promotes the organization and its products and services through newsletters, brochures, company and product fact sheets and other marketing materials or distribution mechanisms as appropriate. The Marketing and Communication Officer develops and implements a public relations and media plan targeted to key public, industry, partner and internal stakeholders and also oversees the preparation of presentations, speeches and other collateral materials for conferences and industry events.


Essential Job Functions:
• Continue to develop, nurture and protect Grameen-Jameel’s brand identity including company positioning in the marketplace, brand messaging, and the creation and use of company templates and other communications tools;
• Ensure that easily understood information about Grameen-Jameel’s vision, mission, strategy and services is readily available in the industry marketplace;
• Develop strategic marketing and communications plans, messaging and materials to position the organization and its products and services to MFI Partners, prospects and other industry players;
• Establish and maintain relationships with industry press and other appropriate media sources or industry stakeholders to promote awareness of Grameen-Jameel and its mission;
• Manage communications/marketing projects with vendors and contractors for the development and production of promotional materials, fact sheets, events, newsletters, annual reports and other collateral;
• Responsible for overseeing the development, updating and maintenance of organization’s website; ensure that new information is added regularly;
• Responsible for generating and maintaining an updated photo gallery of partner activities and company events in coordination with Field Officers and other staff for use in marketing and collateral materials;
• Plan and organize company and industry events;
• Keep current on industry trends and emerging external issues which could impact the organization’s position/image and disseminate information to staff as appropriate;
• Represent the organization at conferences, seminars, training events etc. as needed;
• Prepare presentations and speeches for industry events;
• Provide writing and editing support for outbound communications;
• Interface with program staff for the development of white papers and case studies;
• Participate in the development and updating of organization’s strategic plan;
• Report all activities and challenges to supervisor on a regular basis;
• Other duties as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Fluency in English and Arabic required, French ability a plus;
• Proven experience managing the full range of marketing communications projects (e.g. strategy development, collateral, website development, events, media etc.)
• Ability to think creatively and strategically;
• Detail-oriented professional with strong analytical & problem solving skills;
• Excellent interpersonal and inter-cultural communication skills; ability to work in a team environment;
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills;
• Ability to effectively work under tight deadlines and manage projects independently;
• Commitment to eradication of poverty in the Middle East & North Africa.

Education and Experience:
• Degree in Marketing, Communications or related field;
• 8 or more years of professional experience, with five or more years of experience in development and implementation of marketing, communication, public relations and/or media plans;
• Experience in web content management;
• Event planning experience a plus;
• Experience with financial services related industry a plus;
• Experience in MENA region strongly desired.
