Technical Program Manager, Mifos-India & Philippines
The Technical Program Manager, Mifos-India & Philippines is responsible for providing support to our Indian and East Asian Mifos Specialists—local IT consultants deploying Mifos at MFIs-- by providing on-site technical assistance, documenting lessons learned, and monitoring the progress of our Mifos deployments. This position plays a crucial role in the Mifos project. It will be the eyes and ears of the Mifos software development team - helping us understand how the software is used in the field, what challenges our users are encountering, and what areas are highest priority for us to address to meet the needs of our existing customers.
Reporting and relationships:
This position reports to the Mifos Technical Program Manager.
Availability:
The Technical Program Manager will be expected to work a typical work week of 37.5 hours plus additional hours as necessary to get the job done. The position will require significant international travel. The candidate should plan to spend at least 60% of the time traveling abroad, primarily to India.
Essential Job Functions:
• Provide technical and project management support to Mifos specialists.
• Develop deep functional understanding of Mifos product and support Mifos specialists in gap analysis process helping them to map MFI processes to Mifos functionality.
• Provide on-site technical support to Mifos specialists helping them trouble-shoot application set-up, data migration, back-up processes, reporting issues, system monitoring and maintenance, etc.
• Support Mifos specialist in communicating with mifos-developer and mifos-functional mailing lists to investigate technical and functional issues.
• Review project plans, schedules and progress and help Mifos specialist identify and resolve any red flags and blocking issues.
• Monitor Mifos deployments in-region and collect and disseminate learnings to the Mifos team and broader Mifos community.
• Create and maintain wiki pages for each deployment detailing project schedules, progress against plan, issues and resolutions, data migration strategy, hosting plan, etc.
• Document best practices to help guide Mifos deployments including deployment schedules, data migration, server hosting, system architecture, etc.
• Support the MFIs and Mifos Specialists in the collection and validation of functional requirements for new features and enhancements; help the Mifos product team determine the priority of new feature requests.
• Support the MFIs and Mifos Specialists in the identification and reporting of critical bugs and help the Mifos product team determine the priority of open bugs.
• Support Mifos Technical Program Manager with monitoring and tracking of regional deployments.
• Support Mifos Business Development Activities in Region.
• Assist with recruiting and vetting Mifos specialists in the India region.
• Assist with logistical support and the creation of training materials and content for regional Mifos conferences.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Strong technical skills, solid understanding of SQL, ability to read and understand data models and relational databases, and familiarity with web technologies. Passion for trouble shooting technical issues a must.
• System administration experience, including experience managing back-ups, determining security set-up, creating scripts for application monitoring, highly desired. Experience with accounting systems, data migration, microfinance operations highly desired.
• Experience working on open source projects desired; passion for open source required.
• Ability to effectively communicate priorities, delivery expectations, risks and concerns to multiple stakeholders
• Experience living and traveling internationally.
• Passion for the mission of Grameen Foundation and microfinance.
• Superb written and verbal communication skills.
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree required. An advanced degree may be substituted for work experience.
• A minimum of five years progressive and relevant experience.
Physical and Environmental Conditions:
This position does not require unusual demands for physical effort. This position may occasionally require physical effort to lift and transport boxes weighing no more than 50 pounds.
Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of places such as offices, meeting or training rooms, residences, or commercial vehicles; e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, and/or avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations and traffic signals.
