Village Technology Knowledge Manager
Job Summary: Grameen Foundation seeks a Knowledge Manager (KM) to supports the work of the Village Technology Team. Knowledge Management is the practice of assembling the internal knowledge and intellectual property of an organization in a way that makes it easily accessible to staff to increase efficiency, quality and consistency of our activities. Working from the Seattle office, the KM will work with the staff and teams of the Grameen Foundation Technical Center to ensure efficient and effective knowledge sharing amongst Village Technology Team.
Reporting and Relationships: This position reports to the . and The Contractor will work closely with the Directors of Village Phone, ICT for Innovation and New Initiatives and coordinate with other program staff associated with Village Technology.
Availability:
This is a temporary position (9-12 months) and the Village Technology Knowledge Manager will be expected to work a typical work week of 37.5 hours plus additional hours as necessary to get the job done. The position may require travel to developing countries.
Essential Job Functions:
Identifying knowledge needs and expectations in order to deliver a KM strategy that is aligned to business priorities
Build and manage a Knowledge System from the ground up
Create a structure whereby system functionality documentation is standardized, imbedded in everyday processes and easily consumed by team
Promote collaborative tools to facilitate sharing of ideas and work amongst internal and external partners
Provide support for the establishment and nurturing of communities of practice
Identify and facilitate opportunities for learning within and among team and other departments
Promote knowledge sharing, strengthening links between knowledge sharing and information systems, and improving integration among internal and external information systems In an effort to facilitate seamless exchange of Information across systems
Delivering training sessions for practitioners in KM processes, tools and resources to streamline the capture of intellectual capital and facilitate knowledge transfer
Advising on knowledge solutions and new technologies Promote knowledge sharing through the organization's operational business processes and systems by, among others, strengthening links between knowledge sharing and the information systems, and improving integration among information systems in the organization, to facilitate seamless exchange of information across systems.
Attend GF Village Phone workshop to master Village Phone methodology;
Propose a knowledge management strategy developed collaboratively with team members
Research and recommend program and data management tools to monitor progress, track risks, and turn information into knowledge and monitor over the longer term
Create standards across the teams to systematize, where practical, cross-team meeting notes, call notes, program management tracking, issue tracking, filing and research notes
Create and manage Village Phone toolkit process
Work with IT department and team members to establish and maintain a collaborative searchable repository of operational challenges and solutions to be used for education of new staff with standard operating procedures
The KM is responsible for overseeing the repositories and collaborative workspaces by setting the frameworks for the system, creating a process and ensuring the standards are kept.
Actively participate in the development and coordination of with all team members to learn and help unify project management policies, standards, processes and procedures.
Monitor existing filing practices and workflows to identify redundancies and suggest improvements to organization of data
Monitor program files and email discussions to mine for learning opportunities that contribute to case files
Coordinate and manage knowledge sharing practices and tools
Seek and implement new ways to improve and streamline communications
Develop technical documentation/correspondence/curriculum regarding processes for knowledge management
Ensure coordination and information flow occurs between all appropriate stakeholders; to include initiation and participation in technical exchange meetings, staying considerate of team member capacity.
Facilitate cross-team access to best practices, case studies and lessons learned.
Train team members in use of collaborative spaces to ensure version control of toolkit contents, user documentation and trouble-shooting
Required Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:
Fluency in oral and written English, knowledge of French a plus;
Excellent writing, research and communication skills; ability to gather, synthesize and present information in a professional, compelling and practical manner
Experience with information communication technology, including online portals, intranets, collaborative workspaces and/or other internet-based knowledge management tools; basic knowledge of web development; past experience with creating and/or maintaining websites preferred
One year of work experience in international development, preferably in a developing country
Good knowledge of at least one of the following technical areas: microfinance, adult education or international development
Proven leadership ability and strong interpersonal skills
Ability to meet deadlines, prioritizes assignments, and juggles multiple tasks simultaneously.
Ability to work both independently and as an integral member of teams. Experience with managing an individual or small team a plus.
Experience of process mapping, re-engineering & procedure documentation and controls
Understanding & experience of data warehousing, database structures and SQL is desirable
Exceptionally methodical, organized and analytical with problem solving capabilities.
Education and experience:
A Master's Degree in Library or Information Science or a related field is strongly preferred. Relevant work experience demonstrating a strong background in information management and the skills listed above, in addition to a Bachelors Degree in an applicable field, may suffice in lieu of the Masters Degree.
Knowledge of telecom industry and experience working with an international consulting firm a plus.
Proven experience of Project and Program Management
Physical and Environmental Conditions:
This position does not require unusual demands for physical effort. This position may occasionally require physical effort to lift and transport boxes weighing no more than 50 pounds. Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of places such as offices, meeting or training rooms, residences, or commercial vehicles; e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, and/or avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations and traffic signals.
