With a loan of $450, a woman could add a freezer to her store, giving her community a convenient place to buy meat and fish.
Bosede Ogunleye is one of the lucky ones. She escaped an abusive husband and a desperate life earning a mere 26 cents a day selling water on Nigeria’s streets. Today she’s a member of the Nigerian middle class. She runs a small shop, her income has increased six-fold, and she can afford to send both of her children to school for the first time. Her incredible journey out of poverty began with several microloans from Grameen Foundation’s partner SEAP . One of the loans of $450 enabled her to buy a freezer and generator so she could sell frozen fish and meat in her store. When asked what she thinks of SEAP , she beams and says “I’m so happy to be one of the original members! They don’t disappoint me.”
