Richard Gunther's Story
|
"Microfinance is making a significant dent in poverty."
Dick Gunther knows that microfinance is already putting a dent in global poverty. That’s why he’s helping to make sure it reaches even more of the extreme poor in the future. Before he met Professor Muhammad Yunus, Dick thought that global poverty was an intractable problem without a solution. Then he visited the Grameen Bank in Bangladesh and saw firsthand the power of small loans and how poor people were able to lift their families out of poverty. Since then, he has been a central figure in the founding and growth of GF, serving as the third original board member. Dick has visited and supports Grameen programs in China and India, and helped to create a microfinance program in his own community of Los Angeles. He feels privileged to be involved in such important work and believes that people like him in fortunate circumstances have an opportunity and obligation to help those less fortunate.
