Annual Giving Summer Internship
Start Date: May/June 2010 – August 2010
Location: Washington DC
Availability: 20-32 hours/week (TBD upon hiring), days negotiable
Status: Unpaid internship/volunteer position

Summary: The Development Intern supports the Development Department to attract, communicate with, shepherd and upgrade Grameen Foundation’s vital constituents: its donors. S/he will form part of a dynamic group within Grameen Foundation by assisting with projects ranging from grant writing, and producing print and online communications, to providing general administrative support. The Development Intern will report to the Director of Annual Giving and will be expected to work part time, with hours and schedule to be negotiated (schedule must fall during working hours from 9:00am-5:00pm M-F).

• Assist with expanding GF’s prospective pool of donors through steps such as working with Marketing to develop story ideas for media and researching foundations that align with GF’s mission.

Essential Internship Position Functions:
• Assist with expanding GF’s prospective pool of donors through steps such as working with Marketing to develop story ideas for media and researching foundations that align with GF’s mission.
• Help the annual giving team steward current donors and reach prospective donors. Activities may include fulfilling their information requests, researching incentive programs for donors, and assisting with events management of public speaking appearances of Grameen Foundation staff (GF).
• Assist with Grameen Foundation offline and online communications. Activities include updating informational flyers, interviewing donors for donor stories, updating web pages, proofing and writing copy as needed, and maintaining our communications archive.
• On an as-needed basis, assist donors organize their private awareness-raising and fundraising events (baby showers, gallery openings, etc) through providing materials for their events, serving as their point person and coordinating scheduling with GF staff if needed.
• Help maintain high data integrity by updating donors’ personal information and accounts as needed.
• Prepare donor reports, proposals and briefing documents as needed.
• Provide general administrative support and other duties as needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: This position requires attention to detail; strong communication skills, both written and verbal; excellent interpersonal skills; and the ability to prioritize among competing tasks. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite is required; experience with fundraising and constituency software is a plus. Experience in microfinance and/or technology sector a plus.
Education and Experience: High school diploma and two years relevant work experience or college coursework; Junior, Senior, or Graduate student enrolled in an accredited college or university preferred.
