HR Consultant, Microsavings Initiative, Ethiopia
Job Summary: This position will be responsible for assisting in the execution of the Human Capital Center’s portion of a three year, multi-country project to strengthen savings services at three leading microfinance institutions (MFIs). This position will be responsible for human capital management consulting support at ACSI, a microfinance institution (MFI) headquartered in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia. The HCC Consultant will ensure that the MFI developed human capital management practices that are aligned with overall business strategy and appropriate to support savings services designed to reach 1.45 million new savers during the life of the project.
Reporting and relationships: The position will report to the HCC Project Manager, Microsavings Initiative, with dotted line reporting to the country project manager.
Availability: The HCC Consultant is expected to work the number of hours required to complete the project. The overall time estimate for the position is 100 days over a three year period.
Essential Job Functions:
• Assist ACSI to implement previously developed detailed project plan pertaining to changes needed in current HCM practices
• Design/redesign identified HCM practices in collaboration with internal ACSI staff
• Collaborate to develop and pilot all internal training required to support the implementation of the micro savings project, including technical skills, business process re-engineering, savings mobilization (client-focused), etc.
• Regularly gather data on human capital management key performance indicators for ACSI
• Coordinate closely with HCC Project Manager
• Provide interim and final project and donor reporting as required
• Undertake such other duties, training and/or hours of work as may be reasonably required and which are consistent with the general level of responsibility of this job
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Expert knowledge and understanding of strategic human capital management
• Highly self-motivated, self-directed, and attentive to detail
• Able to provide value-added guidance to senior professionals
• Excellent writing, research and communication skills; ability to gather, synthesize and present information in a professional, compelling, and practical manner
• Strong interpersonal skills to interact successfully with a variety of personalities and situations requiring tact, judgment, and poise
• Ability to work on a collaborative basis across the organization
• Strong analytical & problem solving skills
• Knowledge of HCM practices in Ethiopia preferred
• Organizational and planning skills to prioritize and meet deadlines, work on multiple projects simultaneously, work well under pressure and with minimal supervision
• Must be fluent in English; Amharic fluency a plus

Education and Experience:
• 7+ years of strong generalist experience in human capital management, preferably in the for-profit sector
• Bachelor’s Degree required, advanced degree preferred in human resources, business administration, social sciences or a related field
• Consulting or leadership experience in human capital management, preferably in a developing country
• Significant experience developing and implementing HCM programs
• Or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
Computer and/or Technical Skills:
• Strong working knowledge of MS Office suite, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
Physical and Environmental Conditions:
This position does not require unusual demands for physical effort. This position may occasionally require physical effort to lift and transport boxes weighing no more than 50 pounds.
Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of places such as offices, meeting or training rooms, residences, or commercial vehicles; e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, and/or avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations and traffic signals.
