Position Title: Field Officer
Status: Full-Time, Project Employee (Project End Date 31 August 2011)
Location: Navrongo, Ghana 

Job Summary:  The Field Officer is responsible for leading project field work including planning and execution of workshops and field research.  This includes developing workshop agendas, inviting participants, arranging logistics, and serving as the primary liaison with Ghana health Service District Directors and their teams.  The Field Officer will work closely with the Business Development Manager and Technical Manager to ensure user requirements and feedback is gathered and communicated in an efficient, effective, and timely manner. 
 
Reporting and relationships:  The Field Lead reports to the Business Development Manager in Ghana. 

Availability:  The Field Lead will be expected to work a standard workweek of 37.5 hours and may be required to work in the evenings and on weekends occasionally.  Primary job functions are in the Upper East Region with possible intermittent work assignments in Accra.

Essential Job Functions 
•    Coordinate workshops and meetings with potential users and other stakeholders, including securing workshop locations, food, inviting attendees, developing agendas and other materials, executing the meetings and writing reports – including information about system changes recommended as a result of learnings from such meetings. 
•    Perform field research as required, including defining participants, executing and documenting the research and associated learnings and recommending product changes required as a result of the research findings.
•    Coordinate field work for Ghana Health Service stakeholders and their teams, ensuring they are engaged and the project kept informed of current progress or concerns.
•    Oversee Independent Contractors’ progress towards goals and deliverables; approve and submit their invoices and expense reimbursement requests.

•    Communicate on a regular basis with the Business Development Manager via weekly reports/emails and scheduled feedback meetings.
•    Communicate field findings with other MOTECH staff as required
•    Determine best approach for gathering field information in a locally relevant way.
•    Other duties, as requested.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
•    Deep commitment to eradication of poverty and alignment with Grameen Foundation’s mission
•    Basic computer skills, such as Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook, email, etc.
•    Knowledge of Upper East Region (UER) villages, languages, customs and protocols
•    Knowledge of Ghana Health Services in the UER 
•    Understanding of basic pregnancy/women’s health issues, such as types of information available to pregnant women and community resources used by pregnant women
•    Personable, approachable demeanor
•    Ability to effectively communicate priorities, delivery expectations, risks and concerns to multiple stakeholders
•     Basic communication skills, written and verbal in local languages in UER, both written and verbal.
•    Fluency in English
•    Comfortable presenting to a room of business executives and discussing needs with villagers sitting on the dirt floor of a rural home

Education and Experience
•    Associate’s Degree.  Focus in public health preferred or equivalent work experience. 
•    Five or more years of related experience

Physical and Environmental Conditions
The main demand for physical effort in this position is being able to access remote villages via bicycle and/or motorbike as needed.  This position may occasionally require physical effort to lift and transport boxes weighing no more than 50 pounds.

Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of places such as offices, meeting or training rooms, residences, or commercial vehicles; e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, and/or avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations and traffic signals.
