Availability: 25-40 hours/week, days negotiable

Status: Unpaid internship/volunteer position

Summary:  The Social Media Intern supports the Marketing and Communications Department to effectively communicate Grameen Foundation’s work, mission and goals to external stakeholders, partners, the microfinance and technology industries and the general public.  S/he will assist with a variety of projects which may include social media strategy/implementation, media relations and communication-focused writing, as well as general administrative support.  The Social Media Intern will report to the Online Communications Officer and will be expected to work part time, with hours and schedule to be negotiated (schedule must fall during working hours from 9:00am-5:00pm M-F).

Essential Internship Position Functions:

  • Help create an overarching social media strategy across Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and more.
  • Implement the strategy to increase awareness of GF to the public
  • Daily updates to our social media accounts focused on driving engagement and recruiting new supporters
  • Coordinate with other social media advocates & bloggers for partnerships and joint initiatives
  • Provide general administrative support and other duties as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Experience using social media, especially for non-profits. This position requires attention to detail; strong communication skills, both written and verbal; excellent interpersonal skills; and the ability to prioritize among competing tasks. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite is required, as well as some knowledge and proficiency in web 2.0, video editing, research, communications-oriented writing.

Education and Experience: High school diploma and 2 years relevant work experience or college coursework; Junior or Senior enrolled in an accredited college or university preferred. Graduated students looking for experience also desired.
