Internship Duration: May/June 2011 – August 2011

Availability: 20-30 hours/week, days negotiable
Status: Unpaid internship/volunteer position

Summary:  The Marketing and Communications Intern supports the Marketing and Communications Department to effectively communicate Grameen Foundation’s work, mission and goals to external stakeholders, partners, the microfinance and technology industries and the general public.  S/he will assist with projects ranging from video editing and blogger outreach to media relations and communication-focused writing, as well as general administrative support.  The Marketing Intern will report to a member of the Marketing and Communications team and will be expected to work part time, with hours and schedule to be negotiated (schedule must fall during working hours from 9:00am-5:00pm M-F).

Reporting and relationships:  Online Communications Officer

Essential Internship Position Functions:

  • Assist with improving the Grameen Foundation website & keeping it updated
  • Assist with planning and hosting local Seattle events to raise awareness of GF
  • Assist with developing, researching and writing story ideas for e-newsletter
  • Assist with Grameen Foundation offline and online communications. Activities may include: editing and writing copy as needed, conducting blogger outreach, organizing photo archives, etc.
  • Prepare research briefs
  • Provide general administrative support and other duties as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: This position requires attention to detail; strong communication skills, both written and verbal; excellent interpersonal skills; and the ability to prioritize among competing tasks. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite is required, as well as some knowledge and proficiency in web 2.0, video editing, research, communications-oriented writing.

Education and Experience: High school diploma and 2 years relevant work experience or college coursework; Junior or Senior enrolled in an accredited college or university preferred. Graduated students looking for experience also desired.
