Connecting People with Business Opportunities and Jobs
For the poor, and especially the poorest people, making a living wage is a big challenge. Most must work multiple jobs to string together a basic income. Grameen foundation’s Mobile Livelihood Solutions program connects the poor to jobs and entrepreneurial business opportunities so they can generate a meaningful income and improve their financial stability.
Creating Micro-enterprises
In collaboration with telecomm provider Qualcomm and social business PT RUMA, Grameen Foundation created a unique “business in a box” micro-enterprise that poor people in Indonesia can use to sell pre-paid mobile phone airtime. With start-up capital, a mobile phone, point of purchase signage, training and access to a system to sell airtime, women can start and run a profitable business and earn vital income.
Connecting Employers to the Local Workforce
Not everyone is capable of starting and running their own business, so Grameen Foundation works to connect Indonesians seeking service and labor jobs (as drivers, day laborers, domestic help, etc.) with local employers. Individuals sign up to receive text messages for jobs in their area that match their skill sets. They can respond to opportunities they’re interested in via phone or apply in person.
