Background:
Grameen FoundationIndia(GFI)is awhollyownedsubsidiary ofGrameen FoundationUSAandhas been setup withtheprimarypurposeof usingmicrofinanceand technologysolutions to“enablethe poor,especiallythe poorest,tocreateaworldwithoutpoverty.”GFI will provideseveral products andservicesinareasoftechnology,humanresourcesmanagement, social performance managementanddevelopingsustainable business models tosocialenterprises inIndia.
The Solutions forthePoorest(SfP)team, in collaborationwithBASIX/TheLivelihoodSchool (TLS),is implementingan ActionResearchProjecttotestanddemonstrate thepossibilitythat asingle institutioncanprovideintegrated financial andlivelihooddevelopmentservicesas aholistic approachtoservicingthe economicneedsofthevery poor,whilealsomakingsoundbusinesssense for theinstitution. Thispilotwilldemonstrate that:
1)Microfinanceservicescanbeeffectivelyutilized evenbyverypoor populationsprovidedthat they
are bundled withadditional services,suchaslivelihooddevelopment,tohelpthem engageinmore viable activities;and
2) Providingthesebundledservicestoaverypoor customersegment, in additionto existingtarget customers, canbeaviable businessstrategyforamicrofinanceinstitution.
The projectisbeingimplemented inGaya, Biharandisreaching 200 verypoor households thatwere identified throughacompositetargetingtool designedtoensureinclusionof households currently excluded fromothermicrofinanceprograms andgovernmentschemes. Another50householdsof similar demographics arebeing monitored asacontrol groupforacomparativeassessmentofthe impactoftheseservices against various socioeconomicindicators.
Job Summary:
The Project Officer will reporttothe GFI CEO. Thecandidatewill beexpectedto work alongsidetheTLS ProgramManagertoassess theneeds andchallengesof theextremepoor inBelagunj block,Gaya district;designcustomizedsolutions in responsetotheseneeds, andsupportthemanagementof a sequenced implementationof products, services,andactivitiestoeconomically uplift 200extremely poor households andlinkthem to sustainable localmarkets.Given theinnovativenatureofthe project,thecandidatewillberesponsible for detailedprojectandprocesslevel documentationand captureof learningstofacilitatethe scalingupofthemodel withinBASIX andreplicationof the model acrossotheragencies.
Responsibilities:
ProjectExecution
* CoordinatewithProjectManagertoestablishpartnerships andcommunicationwith government, private,and other non-profit agenciestoleverageexistingservicesandmitigate duplicationofefforts; translatelearnings intostrategyto establish linkagesbetween households and welfareschemes
* Developstrongunderstandingof other ultrapoorprogramsand methodologiesinsupport of effectiveproductdesign
- Providetechnicalsupport,as needed,onfield researchandlivelihoodandfinancial product/
servicedesign
* Participateinprojectteamfield visitsonanongoingbasis, asneeded,tosupportotherproject
duties (e.g.,LivelihoodDiaries, productdesign, documentation, etc.)
* Overseefinancialmodelingof IntegratedLivelihoods Model
- Liaisebetweenvolunteer andBASIX financeteams toensurerequiredcaptureofpricing, costing, andrevenuefigures to makeprojections
- Contributetodevelopmentofoperational planwith field andproductdesignteams and ensuresharingof informationwithfinancialmodel contributors across agencies
- Communicateprogressoffinancial modelingwithGFI/SfP teams

Preferred Skills/Experience:
* Bachelors degreein rural development, communitydevelopment,economics,orotherrelated social science;Mastersdegreepreferred
* At least5-7years ofpractical experienceinthedevelopmentsector,preferablyin the microfinanceand/orlivelihoodsspace(s);previous ultra poor programexperiencepreferred
* Demonstrated previousexperiencedesigningor implementingeitherretailfinancial servicesor livelihoodinterventions
* Abilitytoengageeffectivelyandnurturetrustful relationships with targethouseholds
* Excellentwritten and verbal skills andabletowritequalityreports,manuals,guidelines,andcase studies
* ExceptionalEnglish comprehensionandableto writeclearlyandprofessionally
* ExperienceworkinginUP/Bihar
* ExcellentHindi languageskills–familiarity with dialectsinBihar a plus
* Prior experienceinjournalismisa plus
* Strongworkingknowledge ofMS Officesuite, includingWord, Excel, PowerPoint,andOutlook
