GFUSA Announces 2003 Award Nominees

The following microfinance institutions have been nominated for GFUSA's microcredit awards:

Excellence Award:
CARD, Philippines

Capital Aid Fund for Employment of the Poor (CEP), Vietnam

Al Amana, Morocco

Nirdhan, Nepal


Pioneer Award:
Small Enterprise Foundation (SEF), South Africa

Moris Rasik, East Timor

SKS Microfinance, India

Sinapi Abba, Ghana

Integrated Development Foundation (IDF), Bangladesh


Following selection by a jury, winners will be announced in two categories: the Pioneer Award, which recognizes programs that successfully bring poverty-focused microcredit to a new and/or uniquely challenging environment, and the Excellence Award, which honors outstanding overall achievement in the field of microcredit.

The awards ceremony will take place on November 5, 2003 in New York City. GFUSA will present Graça Machel, the former First Lady of both Mozambique and South Africa, with its 2003 Humanitarian Award in recognition of her lifetime contributions to creating a better world for women and children.
