Growth Guarantee Generates $750,000 for Tunisian MFI
Grameen Foundation USA (GFUSA) announced its innovative Growth Guarantees Program in September 2005. It is the organization’s largest financing program to date. The Growth Guarantees aims to pump a tremendous US$300 million in microfinance loans to benefit more than a million poor people around the world to help them start, sustain or grow their own businesses.

GFUSA lost one of its most devoted friends in the fight against global poverty when Jim Sams passed away in December 2005 from lymphoma. An international lawyer, businessman, GFUSA board member and past chair, he was recognized worldwide for his activism for peace and social justice.

Tsunami Survivors Rebuilding with Microfinance
In December 2004, the devastating tsunami took an estimated 220,000 lives and left more than 1.6 million survivors homeless. Grameen Foundation USA (GFUSA) quickly mobilized and conducted the only systematic, regional survey of how microfinance could help tsunami-affected countries with sustainable development.

”Village Phones” Connecting Uganda’s Rural Villages
The success of the Village Phone Uganda program continued exceeding expectations in 2005. The program is accelerating the rise above poverty for more than 3,500 microfinance clients and bringing telecommunications for the first time to the country’s remote areas.

Nigeria Partner Gives Hope to More than 40,000
LAPO’s transformation and expanded capacity puts it on a solid trajectory to meet a goal of reaching 225,560 clients by 2008.
