Kanchan Singh wanted to use her bank account, but didn’t know how. She was among the more than 200 million people who have recently participated in government programs to expand financial inclusion in India. But a huge number of accounts sit empty or unused. Grameen Foundation India talked to Kanchan and other women on the outskirts of Delhi, and across rural villages of Uttar Pradesh. With our partners J.P. Morgan and the Institute of Rural Management Anand, we researched the financial habits of low-income households, surveying 25,000 women and men. Then, we developed a product that moved low-income women from account ownership to use, to real economic benefit. Watch the video to find out how, and read about the survey report in this press release.
